Behind the Scoop

Keeping it local - all the way through

Supporting local farms, families and businesses with every scoop

At Cream & Sugar, we are very intentional about sourcing all of our milk from Michigan dairy farmers, distributed by the Michigan Milk Producers Association – and all of our sugar from Michigan Sugar, a cooperative of 900 Michigan grower-owners. But did you know there’s an extra boost of local in many of our flavors? We’re inspired by the rich agricultural bounty in our surrounding communities and around the state. Whenever possible, we strive to use ingredients grown here in Michigan and we also look for opportunities to partner with local businesses.

ICE CREAM FLAVORS (get full flavor details here)

These flavors in our current lineup have an extra boost of local!

Caramel Macchiato features freshly brewed espresso from Live Oak Coffeehouse, one of our neighbors here in Uptown Bay City.

Honey Lavender is doubly (actually, triply) sweet thanks to honey from T.M. Klein & Sons in St. Charles and Pioneer® powdered sugar (a Michigan Sugar brand) in the house-baked lemon shortbread crumbled throughout.

Lemon Blueberry includes juicy Michigan blueberries, distributed by Cherry Capital Foods in Traverse City.

Michigan Sugar Cookie boasts house-baked sugar cookie crumble made with Pioneer® brown sugar from Michigan Sugar.

Strawberry Fields Forever is made with sweet Michigan strawberries distributed by Cherry Capital Foods in Traverse City.

Uptown Funk is studded with whole cashews from St. Laurent Bros, a Bay City legend.

Sanders® Classic Caramel and Milk Chocolate Fudge Toppings

That drizzle of caramel or fudge on your ice cream tastes even better (trust us), when you know it’s from Detroit icon Sanders Candy.

Cherry Republic Soda Pop

We searched far and wide for soda made with Michigan sugar beets (most sodas are made with high-fructose corn syrup or cane sugar) … and we found it in Glen Arbor’s famous Cherry Republic.
